Bree closed her eyes and sighed deeply. Her back was firmly pressed against the tree behind her, with her arms hanging limply at both sides, and she could feel herself sliding down slowly and painfully. She wasn't upset or anguished, she was just burnt out. It had been a long, long couple of days, and now she only had to go back to school tomorrow morning again. What a life! But usually, it was everything she enjoyed about her life, even if that sounds odd. She loved filling her brain with the random information she gathered at school. She loved pouring over old, dusty, ancient, decrepid textbooks, trying to decifer their meanings. She loved quizzing her self on all of the new information she'd just learned. And she absolutely loved being able to look back at her accomplishments with pride and ownership. Even if Bree didn't try as hard as she did, she would still excel. But since she enjoyed it so dreadfully much, why not? She kicked her feet out and landed with a thump on the dry, parched grass. Lazily, she plucked clovers and dandelions around her and threw them into the breeze. She closed her eyes and sighly again. One of these days it would all be worth it.

Katherine was snotty today, but that was nothing unusual. She was in one of her trash-can kicking, bully tackling, wood burning, pillow punching moods that occured, oh, every couple of days. She was fierce. She was violent. And to top it all off, she was so annoyed with feeling this way that she just wanted to puke. To the oblivious passer-by, Katherine appeared to be a gigantic, raging mess of PMS. But inside she was screaming.
While she was no one near the verge of tears, she still didn't want it to be a Sunday. She could almost feel the hours slipping away with the slow sinking of the sun and the stretching of the shadows. It completely irked her. And now, what was she doing? Wasting her precious minutes (not to mention her life) away with pouting and stomping around the school grounds. Man, on a perfectly beautiful Sunday, didn't she have anywhere else to be? Anywhere else but school!?
To her alarm, there happened to be another solitary girl out on the grounds. Her insticts told her to dart behind a tree or bush, but instead Katherine chose to walk past her indifferently, hoping she wouldn't notice. And she didn't. The other girl's eyes were closed as she sat, slumped up against an enormous tree. That was a relief. Katherine would rather not risk an unpleasant encounter with this pretty, nerdy little prep. Even though no one was watching, Katherine whipped her thick, brown hair behind her head with a flourish and lifted her chin.

Bree's eyes burst open, and she sat up delicately. Already, she had grass imprints on her hands and bugs crawling on her jeans. How long had she been lying there?
Out of there corner of her eye, she detected movement. Standing up, she found herself about twenty feet away from the most beautiful, arrogant, vain creature she'd ever seen. The girl struted about elegantly like a peathingy, with her head raised high and an angry look on her face. It was completely intimidating to Bree, who was usually extremely quiet and kept to herself and her books. This girl obviously had power. This girl obviously had confidence.
After thinking this, Bree shook her head, sending her mass of wavy hair rippling over her face. She knew it wasn't right to judge others. She couldn't help it, being human nature to categorize people and ideas, but she still didn't like, and could therefore try to stop it.
For a moment, she considered being friendly, but then decided it wasn't worth her effort. But, just as the girl was about to pass her, she decided to give it a shot anyway.
"Is there a program going on at the school tonight, or are you just wandering?" Bree thought to herself, What an incredibly ridiculous question to ask! I must sound like such a nerd. But, since she sort of was, Bree just shrugged it off and waited for the girl to respond.
